Lynn Courville - Daycare Manager

I have been married to my husband Paul since 1986 and have been a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance denomination since 1985.  I am a mother of two grown children; a daughter and a son.  I have been interested in working with children since I was 12 years old.  I babysat on weekends and would spend my entire summer holidays at the U-Vic Daycare center.  In addition to raising two of my own children I chose to offer LNR in-home childcare so that I could be a stay at home mom.  During that time I provided care to five other children between the ages of 0-3 and four other children over the age of three.  In 1998 I began my ECE training and worked at the Shawnigan Christian Preschool for 12 years.  In 2006 I left the full time employment of the preschool and worked for the Cowichan School District as an Education Assistant; working with special needs children from K to grade 12.  I continued to sub for the preschool's supervisor as well as a Montessori Group care and an in home care Montessori in Langford.  I have also completed my Infant Toddler training through Pacific Rim Institute.  One of my dreams has been to open and manage a childcare center that would enroll children aged 0-5 years.  Westshore Alliance Church is partnering in this dream to reach the community with quality and affordable childcare.  Phase two is now complete and will meet the needs of the 3-5 year olds! I am looking forward to helping you and your family as we grow together.

Stephanie Whitaker - Infant Toddler Educator

So happy to be joining the team at Westshore Community Daycare!  I did my Early Learning and Care diploma at Camosun College completing the two and a half year program in June 2012.  I completed both my special needs and infant toddler practicums. Since graduating college I have worked as a nanny for one family.  I have worked with their twin daughters from 3 months of age to six years.  It was an amazing experience to learn and grow with the twins.  I feel truly honored to have been a part of their family and to have gained that experience.  Since August 2015 I have been in the daycare field working at one center using all aspects of my diploma.  I started in the 3-5 center, did some one on one care, and finally moved downstairs to work with the infants and toddlers.  I am very excited to have been given the opportunity to continue my journey in the early childhood education field while working with, and getting to know all of you. I was born and raised right here in Victoria, and aside from childcare one of my other passions includes horseback riding.  I am currently taking lessons to acquire my riding level two.  By doing this I can continue my education and one day combine my passions of horses and children to work with the therapeutic riding program.  When I am not working or riding I also enjoy yoga and hiking.  I look forward to meeting you all face to face and please never hesitate to ask me any questions.

Hello my name is Laura Matthews. I am an Early Childhood Educator . I have been working in the field since January of 2011. I received my Early Childhood Education / Special Needs Diploma from Camosun College in 2012. I continued my education at the  University of Victoria, graduating in June 2016 with a degree in Child and Youth Care.   I have many hobbies outside of the Early childhood field, which include: hiking, swimming and books. I will read anything and everything that I can get my hands on. I have a vast book collection with everything from classic literature to superhero comics. I also love being outside in nature. I can often be seen hiking on the many trails that are found around Victoria and up island.  One of my favourite places is Port Renfrew. I try to go up and visit as often as possible to: camp, hike and swim.

I love working with children and  families . watching children’s wonder, creativity, curiosity and unique personalities develop everyday is something I feel truly blessed to get to experience.
