At Westshore Community Daycare we offer a child-centred educational approach.
Why go to a Preschool and daycare when you can get both in one place? Our ECE trained teachers run our Preschool program from 8am until 12. This program promotes independence, responsibility, freedom within limits, a sense of order, self regulation and peer teaching.

Open communication between staff and parents is essential, particularly as it applies to the growth and development of the children. Parents should feel that the staff is accessible to discuss any aspect of their child’s development, family or culture, or the child’s happiness and satisfaction with the program. Parents may arrange to have a private conversation about their child with the manager. In addition, regular communication will be provided by monthly newsletters and the parent information board at the entrance of the daycare.
At registration half the first month’s fee will be required, to hold your child’s spot. This is nonrefundable but will go towards their first month’s payment. Fees are due on the first day of each month. Fees cover 48 weeks of care, parents are required to have holidays or back up care booked for the Christmas and summer closures. There will be no refund for absences. Full fees are collected for all days of non-attendance (ie. Illness, holidays, etc.)
Daycare will be closed all government and statutory holidays, as well as the two weeks over Christmas and two weeks in the summer (Dates TBA)
Children are all unique and learn at their own pace within their own style. Within the room there are sorting, stacking, manipulating, creating and calming materials to choose from. Our Curriculum is set up to accommodate all learning styles and stages, children are free to choose an activity as well as the length of interaction during a set work period. Self directed learning creates internal satisfaction and drives curiosity and interest, this enables children to think critically, learn from errors and take responsibility for their own learning.
Within our small community of learners we support each other like a family. Children learn when to respect each others space, activity choices and privacy or work collaboratively within a group. Activities are set up on accessible shelves to foster independence in a large uncluttered area which lends itself to a sense of calm and harmony. There are well defined areas for group work or individual spaces where children can choose from each part of the curriculum; Language arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and Art.
